Pain in the legs, bones, or joints is often linked to a deficiency in certain vitamins or minerals. The most commonly involved one is:
Vitamin D deficiency
This is the most frequent deficiency associated with:
- Bone pain
- Leg pain or weakness
- Muscle aches
- Fatigue
Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium, so when it is low, the bones become weak (osteomalacia in adults), causing dull, aching bone or leg pain.
Other deficiencies that may also cause leg or bone pain:
1. Calcium deficiency
- Muscle cramps
- Bone pain
- Tingling or numbness
Often linked to low vitamin D as well.
2. Magnesium deficiency
- Muscle cramps
- Twitching
- Bone discomfort
- Restless legs
3. Vitamin B12 deficiency
- Nerve pain
- Tingling in legs
- Weakness
(Not typically bone pain, more nerve-related.)
What to do
If leg or bone pain is persistent, the best step is to get a blood test for:
- Vitamin D
- Calcium
- Magnesium
- Vitamin B12
These deficiencies are common and easily treatable once identified.
